Poetry: No More Quarters

Soaring to vast heights,

Dropped to deep valleys below
On Cancer’s Coaster Ride of Life
Fate’s Hand, deposits a quarter
Taunt me, thrill me, spasms of fear

A captive audience, strapped in
Unrestrained whirlpools of energy
A quarter drops, the ride starts again
More Chemo, surgeries, tests, and scans
Round and round, up and down
Dizzy though I be,
A quarter drops
In the distance Father-time sharply brakes,
Pulling back Fate’s lever
I stand healthfully on solid ground
Life, finally deplete of quarters
